Summer's End

After painting a lot of dark and serious sci-fi behind the scenes lately, which is lovely and all but a tad depressing after awhile, I also went about painting something a little more lighthearted in my spare time to try and balance things out. I'm not a fan of winter but I do love this time of year and the transition period between summer and autumn.

The setting is very loosely based on a walk home from town I often take through a small wooded area near my house. Other than that I imagine our friendly dragon is preparing to leave the forest for warmer climates before winter sets in. He doesn't need to eat but the local villagers see him as a summer guardian and being the nice folks that they are, bring him gifts to wish him a safe journey and a safe return in the spring.
